verpool fans will be encouraged by Mohamed Salah’s 2016 comments when discussing collapsed 2014 moveLiverpool are very keen on bringing former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp, who has already had a £28million bid rejected by Roma, is preparing to make an improved offer as the Reds look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.
But this isn’t the first time Liverpool have tried to land the Egypt international, as fans anticipating the club potentially breaking it’s record transfer fee know full well.
Back in 2014 Brendan Rodgers was also keen on signing the then Basel winger, and in January he was set to move to Merseyside.
However the clubs failed to agree a deal and Salah instead joined Premier League rivals Chelsea for an £11million fee.
In 2016 Salah spoke to MBC Masr about the collapsed move two years earlier.
“Liverpool had wanted me for a number of months. They had opened talks in October 2013,” explained the Egyptian forward.
“They felt the transfer fee was not that high. I was waiting for Liverpool because I really like Liverpool. I was eager to join them.
“But then I received a phone call from [Jose] Mourinho and that changed everything. He explained the situation to me and told me that he needed me at Chelsea.
“That was one of the main reasons why I joined Chelsea. Mourinho told me that he thought I was a good player and that he wanted me to pick Chelsea.”
Salah made just 19 appearances for Chelsea before he was loaned to Fiorentina and then joined Roma permanently.
This season he has made 45 appearances for the Serie A giants, scoring 21 times.
